First Things First

When you move into your first house, you might be tempted to order new furniture or carpets for your place instead of attending to more important matters. Unfortunately, if you overlook home security, you might be left wondering if your family is safe while you are away. As a lock enthusiast, I always tell new homeowners that the first thing they should do is to rekey their entire house. Believe it or not, the process is relatively inexpensive and easy, so you won't have to worry about breaking the bank to protect your new investment. Read my website to find out more.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do: Practical Steps You Should Take After A Split

by Katie Davis

When your relationship with a significant other ends and falls apart, you will likely find yourself overwhelmed with emotions and thoughts of how you could have done better to keep the relationship going. While this is a normal part of the process after the loss of a major relationship, you may be looking for more practical ways to deal with the situation. After all, sometimes it is better to keep yourself preoccupied with things you can fix rather than dwelling on those you could not. Get to know some of the practical steps that you should take following a breakup so that you can keep busy and keep yourself safe and moving forward.

Lock Replacements for Your Home

If you and your ex lived together or shared access to each other's homes, one of the best steps that you can take following a breakup is to get the locks replaced in your home. Even if your former partner returns the key you gave them, there is always a chance (however small it may be) that they made a copy of your house key and kept it.

To remedy this issue, you can get your locks changed early in the breakup process to ease your mind. If you own your home, simply call a locksmith and explain that you need the residential lock replacement for all of the doors to your home.

If you rent your home, on the other hand, you may need to first explain the situation to your landlord. This may require you to pay an extra fee to your rental company as well as the cost of changing the locks, but the cost will be well worth it to improve upon your peace of mind.

Contact a company like Fox Chase Lock & Key about having your locks replaced or rekeyed.

Block Their Phone Number and/or Change Yours

In the days and even weeks immediately following a breakup, the temptation will be at its highest to try to ignore all of the problems and issues that lead to the end of that relationship and try to get back together. This can be because it is a familiar and comfortable situation, because you still care for and love the person, or simply because the pain of going through a breakup is intense.

However, to protect yourself from making the mistake of going backwards rather than forward, you may need to take some serious steps to prevent communication between you and your ex. Blocking their phone number is one such option. By placing a block on their number, you will prevent calls or text messages from coming through on your phone that come from their specific number. But, if they use a different phone to contact you or block the caller ID on their number, they may still be able to get through to you.

As such, it may be a good idea to completely change your phone number after a breakup. Once you change your number, be sure the block is still on your phone so that they cannot find your new number and contact you. And, of course, you can and should delete their contact info from your phone so that you cannot contact them in a moment of weakness or nostalgia.

Now that you have a few ideas of some practical steps that you can take after the end of a relationship, you can move forward and get the things done that need to be done. With time and distance, you will begin to feel more like yourself and more prepared to move forward with your life.
